Life on Mars?

UNCG is sponsoring a talk by Dr. Lisa Pratt about the possibility of life (living there right now!) on Mars. The talk is this Thursday, October 15th at 8:00 PM in Bryan 160 on the UNCG campus. Here's a description of her talk and a map to the Bryan Building.

Make an APOD Poster

On Saturday, October 24th, Elon University and the Alamance County Astronomy Club will be hosting a public stargaze at Northeast Park from 7 to 9 PM. This will be just one of hundreds of similar events held around the world as part of the "Galilean Nights" weekend. Aside from just setting up telescopes, I'm hoping to have a few students from PHY 102 set up posters describing a few interesting astronomy items. I would suggest converting a page from the Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) site into a poster using the template below. That is the easy part. The hard part is to become an expert on this object! You should understand every word and acronym on the poster before the event. You will likely need to read a few Wikipedia and/or NASA entries. Wednesday in class, we're going to each make a poster. If you are interested in printing it and presenting it at Northeast Park, please let me know. Below is a PowerPoint template that you can use:

It was based on this APOD page:
