Numen Lumen

This work for organ and string quartet was commissioned by Elon University for performance by the renowned Ciompi Quartet, artists-in-residence at Duke University, and organist Tim Olsen, Kenan Professor of Organ at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The title of the work is taken from Elon's motto, roughly translating to spiritual light and intellectual light. Music critic William Thomas Walker had this to say in his review of this piece:

"It is seldom that commissions are clearly pieces that ought to be played often, well beyond their duty to fulfill a grant. Numen Lumen is a winner!"
