This piece combines live performance (cello), double screen video projection, and surround sound electronic music playback in an immersive experience. Exquisite Corpse was originally commissioned as a solo piano work by Mormon Artists Group and then expanded to double the length and adding amplified cello, 3-D video projection, and surround sound electronic accompaniment through a commission by the Barlow Endowment for Music Composition. The original visual inspiration for the work was a three-piece photograph in the style of the surrealist game 'Exquisite Corpse' by artists Thomas Epting, Matthew Day, and Natasha Brien of a human skull, adult torso in a trench coat, and an infant's legs. Coleman's composition is a mediation on life, meaning, and existence beyond mortality.
