I am an associate professor of communications at Elon University, where I teach courses in journalism and new media. My major research interest is how effective online communication technologies are for disadvantaged populations such as the elderly, the rural, the poor and the disabled. Other areas of research include new communication technologies and news, organizational communication, media and religion and service learning.
I am the present research chair of the Communication Technology Division for the major international mass communication academic organization, the AEJMC.And in my free time, I am the director of news for the ACM Intercollegiate Programming Contest.
