I have supervised three Arts and Humanities Scholars, each of whom has developed exciting and important original research projects that have been recognized for excellence outside of Elon’s undergraduate research program. Each of these students not only presented at SURF, but also at the Southeast Regional Commission on the Study of Religion ( Regional American Academy of Religion meeting) where Ann Marie Leonard’s paper won the award for best student paper and Ann Marie and Erin also presented at NCUR (National Conference on Undergraduate Research).

In my work with Arts and Humanities scholars I work with students over a two year period to help them take a topic of interest and develop it into an interesting and manageable research project that will eventuate in original research. While this is a challenging task at the undergraduate level, it is possible and I believe it offers students the best preparation possible for graduate school in any field.
