With its Grand Canal, St. Mark's Square and Basilica, Rialto Bridge and Doge's Palace, Venice is one of few cities in the world that can truly be described as unique. Many excellent museums, quaint streets and canals as well as fine restaurants can be discovered all over the island. In addition to being an artistic and musical center, the city's character has maintained its charm and magical lifestyle. In addition to the academic courses, students enjoy the rich cultural past and present of Venice and the Veneto region. The program includes an extensive walking tour of the island as well as a boat tour of the lagoon, lectures on site at the Accademia, Doge's Palace, the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, Scuola Grande di San Rocco and Frari.

ITALIAN COURSE Elon in Italy is an immersion course that combines video, audio and printed materials to teach the Italian language and culture. In addition to the required textbook, a variety of excursions will expose students to the sights and sounds of contemporary Italy. The course not only focuses on the topical content of each chapter of the textbook, but also implements the necessary skills to communicate effectively in Italian. Students learn how to activate their linguistic knowledge in the context of real situations. The Study Abroad in Venice is an intensive program involving students from all over the world and offers students the opportunity for a rich and rewarding cultural exchange.
GST 214 : the course is designed to introduce students to the main aspects in contemporary Italy such as history, art, politics, film studies, literature and cultural landmarks in general. Throughout the four-week program, each student will be asked to keep a journal addressing not only the student's activities in Venice, but especially the intellectual, cultural, and personal growth that the experience opens for the student. To guide, but not direct or limit the students, the Elon faculty will provide the students with possible format and topic outlines for the journals and the papers, review the students' journals at several points in the course of the month, and supervise the production of a final paper (in English), whose point will be to focus the students' thinking on achieving an articulated synthesis of the entire experience.
