Carolinas Writing Program Administrators (CWPA), established in the fall of 2003 as an affiliate of the National Council of Writing Program Administrators, strives to enhance national efforts to professionalize writing program administration and writing instruction by encouraging dialogue on a regional level among key constituents about issues relevant to such work.

CWPA was formed to encourage communication among community colleges, colleges, and universities, public and private, in North and South Carolina. Members consists of not only writing program administrators, but also writing center directors, directors of writing across the curriculum programs, first-year writing instructors, teachers and administrators within professional writing programs, and so forth. By establishing this affiliate, concerns and issues related to writing instruction and the administration of writing programs can be addressed regionally, and a support system among North and South Carolina schools can merge on a more local level.

Goals:

  • To reach out and to bring together teachers from diverse campuses.
  • To acknowledge the work of WPAs and writing teachers.
  • To articulate a more complex and clear view of what constitutes the teaching of writing.
  • To discuss policies that affect all teachers of writing and administrators of writing programs, including admissions, transfer, curricular, and hiring policies.

CWPA welcomes new members to join us in this work!
