In case you're wondering who's Martin Kamela…..

I was born in Krakow, Poland, and moved with my family to Canada when I was a kid. We first arrived on the west coast in Nanaimo, British Columbia, and a year and a half later moved to Edmonton, Alberta. In Edmonton, I completed a B.Sc. in mathematical-physics, at the Physics Department of the University of Alberta, then moved to Montréal, Québec, to do an M.Sc. and a Ph.D. in the Physics Department of McGill University.

Before Coming to Elon College in the Fall of 2000, I taught at the University of Minnesota - Morris, in Morris, Minnesota (as the name suggests) and before that at Bishop's University, in Lennoxville, Québec, Canada.

My research interests are primarily the theoretical studies of quantum field theories (QFT's), from the particle physics perspective. QFT's are the modern language of particle physics and solid state physics. Roughly speaking, if you take the principles of quantum mechanics and if you also want to maintain the idea that objects very far away do not influence one another, the formalism of QFT comes out as a consequence. Part of my Ph.D. dealt with dualities among QFT's. This is the idea that for some physical systems there can be more than one fundamental description in terms of QFT's. Dualities are neat, because they tell us that the same system can be interpreted, correctly, in more than one way.

What do I do for fun? I like music - live music even better. I love to travel, to brew a good, strong, cup of  coffee, to hang out in densely populated areas and to escape them once in a while.
