· I am a certified
interpreter for the U.S. Courts and work (mostly in the summers) at federal
trials for Spanish-speaking defendants and witnesses. In this capacity,
I do both simultaneous and consecutive interpreting from English to Spanish
and from Spanish to English. I also work with the Courts as a translator.
(Nota bene: Many people outside the field do not make a distinction
between interpretation, which is oral, and translation, which is written.)
· I am also certified
to administer the Oral Proficiency Interview (or "OPI"), the national standard
for measuring oral proficiency in Spanish (and other languages), as established
by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
· I also hold a
Certificate in Latin American Studies in conjunction with my Ph.D. degree
from the University of Florida.
