Degree Requirements
A Bachelor of Science (ACS certified) degree in chemistry consists of 61-65 sh and requires the following courses:
General chemistry (CHM 111, 113, 112, 114) or (CHM 115, 116)
Organic chemistry (CHM 211, 213, 212, 214)
Advanced chemistry: CHM 125, 205, 311, 321, 332, 334, 351, 431, 432, 461, 499 (2 sh)
Outside requirements: MTH 121, 221 and PHY 113, 114
A Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry consists of 44-48 sh and requires the following courses:
General chemistry (CHM 111, 113, 112, 114) or (CHM 115, 116)
Organic chemistry (CHM 211, 213, 212, 214)
Advanced chemistry: CHM 125, 205, 311, 332, 461
Six semester hours from chemistry (at least 4 sh at the 300-400 level)
Outside requirements: MTH 121 and PHY 111, 112 (or PHY 113, 114)
A Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry consists of 61-65 sh and requires the following courses:
General chemistry (CHM 111, 113, 112, 114) or (CHM 115, 116)
Introductory biology (BIO 111, 113, 112, 114)
Organic chemistry (CHM 211, 213, 212, 214)
Intermediate courses: BIO 245, CHM 311
Biochemistry: CHM 351, 352, 353, 354, 491
Ten hours from chemistry or biology (at least 4 sh from each field), select from:
BIO 321, 422, 445, 499
CHM 321, 332, 334, 472, 473, 499
Outside requirements: MTH 121 and PHY 111, 112 or PHY 113, 114
Notes: Research must have a biochemical component. Special topics and research can count uo to 4 sh toward the major.
