Background on Kyle
I am originally from Sheboygan, Wisconsin -- known to many as the bratwurst capital of the world. As such, it has an annual Bratwurst Day the first full weekend in August.
I have 3 Bachelor of Arts degrees from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. They were in Physics, Mathematics and the Integrated Science Program (ISP) -- a challenging interdisciplinary science study forum that does well to prepare its graduates for scientific research.
I have a PhD in Physics from the University of Wisconsin Madison. Franz Himpsel was my advisor in condensed matter physics, specifically thin-film magnetism. A list of the published research papers I have been a part of is available here. They were all done at the Synchrotron Radiation Center (SRC), which is staffed by a great group of people.
In my spare time I watch and play numerous sports. Wallyball, soccer and baseball are my favorites. I enjoy the statistical aspect of baseball quite a bit. A study of Barry Bonds 2002 season can be found here, and a followup here. I write computer programs as another hobby, but my hard drive is full of partially finished projects that usually got to the point where I could use them and stopped, or took so long I found an alternate method to do what I wanted.
