I am Associate Director of the Center for Engaged Learning and an Associate Professor of Professional Writing and Rhetoric in the Department of English at Elon University. My teaching, scholarship, and service move between and blend professional writing and rhetoric, high-impact learning practices, writing studies, second language writing, teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), and faculty development.
I previously coordinated the Professional Writing and Rhetoric undergraduate concentration in the English Major and College Writing (ENG 110), a required writing course in the university’s first-year core.
In addition to teaching in these programs, I regularly teach and mentor undergraduate research in Professional Writing & Rhetoric and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I also have taught in the Elon College Fellows Program, a fellows program for students majoring in the Arts and Sciences.
I serve as the elected Secretary of the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), and I previously served on the CCCC Executive Committee. I chair the Communications Committee for the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL), and co-chaired the 2013 ISSOTL Conference (with Peter Felten). I was the founding chair-elect of the Second Language Writing Interest Section at TESOL. I also serve on the Carolinas Writing Program Administrators Board.
