In the Spring of 2007, I completed my senior thesis art exhibition at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. My project was the culmination of a two-year undergraduate research venture. The body of work, entitled Knock the Lock, explores the possibilities of using art to promote social change. Influenced by artists like Bruce Mau and Felix Gonzalez-Torres, I attempted to create artwork which would both raise awareness about low-income housing (the social issue upon which my work focuses) and motivate people to become active in advocating for change. A series of tactics employed around the Greensboro and Burlington, North Carolina areas lead viewers to a website which provides them with information and resources for getting involved.
