Frances Ward-Johnson

Frances Ward-Johnson is an Associate Professor and Associate Department Chair in the School of Communications at Elon University. She brings more than 15 years of academic, scholarly, and research interest and experience in communications. She holds a Ph.D. in mass communication research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Prior to entering academia, she served as a journalist for several daily newspapers and the Associated Press wire service. She was also Manager of Communications at the Center for Creative Leadership, headquartered in Greensboro, NC.

Dr. France Ward-Johnson
  Ward-Johnson’s research focuses on women and ethnic minorities in the mass media and her interest center around exploring race, class, gender, culture and communication and examining the impact images in the mass media have on audiences and how those images are developed and interpreted. She co-teaches a study abroad course titled “Barbados: Culture, Sport, and Media.” Ward-Johnson is an executive editor of the Journal of International Women’s Studies.
