| ELON 101 EH or AP - Achieving
Personal Effectiveness: This thematically designed section
of Elon 101 meets for one hour once a week to address the same
advising/orientation issues as standard sections. Additionally,
this section will introduce students to multiple strategies for
achieving personal success in their first year and beyond. Through
the examination of self, students will learn to identify and leverage
their strengths to achieve academic success and maintain personal
wellness. The perspectives gleaned from this course will serve
as a framework for evaluating choices to maximize the student's
college experience. |
ESS 101 - Introduction to Exercise
Science: This
course is an overview of professions in the field of exercise science.
Career opportunities within exercise science and allied health will
be investigated. Objectives include describing various aspects of
careers, determining requirements for advanced study and learning
what the necessary coursework would be applying to several professions

ESS 333 - Exercise Psychology: This
course will examine applied and theoretical issues related to the
psychology of physical activity. Theories of motivation and exercise
behavior will be examined in relation to the increasing problems
of exercise adherence and physical inactivity. Other topics that
will be discussed include the psychological benefits of exercise,
personality and exercise, body image and the psychology of injury.
Various techniques will be discussed in relation to motivating exercise
behaviors and how to deal with special populations. This course does
not fulfill requirements for a major or minor in psychology. (Elon

ESS 442 - Sport Psychology: This course
will provide a broad overview of the sport psychology discipline.
Major areas of interest will be on the motivational theories of sport
participation, the factors that influence athletic performance, psychological
techniques that can be used to improve sport athletic performance
and the social psychology of sport. This course will discuss the

| GST 253 - Australian Ecotourism: The
International Ecotourism Society defines ecotourism as "responsible
travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and sustains
the well being of local people." Outdoor activities have
become one of the most popular and pervasive activities throughout
the world today generating millions of dollars in revenue for many
countries. When responsible tour operators strike a balance between
conservation and commercial interests it is possible to offer quality
outdoor learning experiences while maintaining a sustainable
income for the indigenous people and preserving the natural environment
for future generations.
The goals of this course seek to expand the participant's awareness
and appreciation of ecotourism as a means of exploring cultural diversity
and contributing to international exchange.

GST 421 - Peak Performance:Pumping the Mind,
Body and Spirit: This course will integrate knowledge from
the social and physical sciences to show how their interaction,
especially of the mind, body and spirit, is important to obtain
peak performance in our endeavors. The term peak performance takes
on different meanings depending on the discipline in which it is
being discussed (e.g., exercise science versus psychology versus
business). This course will discuss the different definitions and
theories behind peak performance, discuss common characteristics
of “peak performers” and develop plans to help the
