I earned a Ph.D. in German language and literature, with an emphasis in
Medieval Studies, in 2002 from Washington University in St. Louis. Realizing the increasingly important role that
technology plays in higher education, I continued my post-doctoral studies in Computer Science at Weber State
University before transferring to the Department of Instructional Technology at Utah State University, where
I earned a M.S. in 2008 with a minor in Computer Science and Business Information Systems. Although I am trained as
a medievalist, my research interests also include cognitive load theory (CLT), computer-assisted language learning
(CALL), digital game-based learning (DGBL), digital humanities, video game studies, and problem-based learning
(PBL).
