about me

I earned a Ph.D. in German Language and Literature, with an emphasis in Medieval Studies, in 2002 from Washington University in St. Louis. Realizing the increasingly important role that digital technology plays in higher education, I continued my post-doctoral studies in Computer Science at Weber State University before transferring to the Department of Instructional Technology at Utah State University, where I earned a M.S. in 2008 with a minor in Computer Science and Business Information Systems. Although I am trained as a medievalist, my research interests also include computer- assisted language learning (CALL), digital game-based learning (DGBL), digital humanities, situated cognition, sociocultural approaches to second language acquisition (SLA), video game studies, and problem-based learning (PBL).
