Process Description - Lecture Notes - CIS 211 - Management Information Systems

Prior to the Visio tutorial and walk-through, we will engage in an team-based in-class exercise. In your assigned teams, describe the entire rental process at a video store such as Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, or Family Video. You can think of the description as an algorithm (a set of steps to describe a method of accomplishing a task).

Create your process description by using a numbered list in a Microsoft Word document. Assign one team member to do the writing. All three team members should help describe the individual steps of the process and discuss any required changes as the team builds the algorithm.

Once teams have completed (or time expires), the class will re-convene to share their steps and create a class-wide, agreed-upon process description. Teams will then disband and students will individually create a process diagram (a.k.a. flowchart) of the process using Microsoft Visio.
